Social program pending confirmation

1. Plenary sessions:

Plenary sessions start each day’s proceedings and bring all conference participants together in one large session. Each plenary session includes three to four speakers drawn from the world’s most distinguished researchers, community leaders and policy specialists who address and discuss the conference main topics.

2. Morning and afternoon parallel session (oral presentations)

Each day of the Conference will include two parallel session periods. During these times, participants may attend session regarding the main sub-themes of the conference. All delegates are free to attend any session of interest to them.

All sessions are based on research abstracts submitted by experts from around the world, which have been peer-reviewed by a panel of international reviewers and selected for presentation by the Academic Program Sub- Committee.

Each session includes 4 – 5 speakers, who will each make a ten- fifteen minute presentation, followed by a short discussion. Audience questions will be encouraged and facilitated by the session coordinator.

3. Exhibit presentations (posters and exhibits):

The exhibits will present research results and/or analytical reflections based on activist or mobilizing experiences previously conducted. Abstracts for poster displays and exhibits will be also selected by peer-review teams.

Depending on space available, all posters will be displayed during the whole conference or a different group of posters will be displayed each day. Presenters will be at their posters between a pre-established time to answer questions and provide further information on their study results.

4. Special presentations:

Throughout the VIII IASSCS Conference, Naming and Framing: The Making of Sexual (In)equality, there will be a space for workshops and special presentations. Special presentations can include campaign announcements, debates on special topics or other equivalent activities. Workshops are learning spaces organized by the workshop’s hosting organizations. Given budget restraints we will not be able to provide translation for this presentation.

We invite interested institutions to present their workshop proposals with the following information:

  1. Title of the workshop/special presentation
  2. Hosting organization/ sponsor
  3. Brief description (with objectives and goals)
  4. Presenters/facilitators
  5. Methodology
  6. Participants characteristics (number, profile, prior registration, other requirements)
  7. Contact details and information of the host organization

We invite every institution that wants to propose a special presentation or workshop to write us at 2011conference@iasscs.org until March 31, 2011.

5. Institutional fair:

Its aim is that universities press, advocacy groups, non governmental institutions and academic journals with publications, projects, programs, campaigns or interventions and publications related to the Conference themes could show them. A specific area will be available to display and dispense information and to sell publications and promote projects (for a fee of $ 100.00 USD per stand).

We invite every institution that wants to participate at the institutional fair to write us at 2011conference@iasscs.org until May 31, 2011.

6. Satellite meetings: (by invitation only)

Considering the presence of diverse institutions and Conference delegates many satellite meetings are organized before and after the Conference. Those meetings are fully organized and coordinated by the party hosting the satellite (academic institutions, international research groups or NGOs). Conference organizers will try to assist the hosting institution to find a convenient place at the conference venue. Satellite meetings must be organized prior or before the conference days to avoid interference with the conference program.

We invite every institution that wants to organize a satellite meeting to write us at 2011conference@iasscs.org until June 1, 2011.
