Applications to the IV IASSCS Post-Conference training, following the VIII IASSCS Conference, are now closed.
We are pleased to announce the IV IASSCS Post-Conference Training following the VIII IASSCS Conference in Madrid, Spain from July 11th to 20th, 2011. IASSCS’ mission is to strengthen the field of social and cultural sexuality research globally. We are committed to building equity in research capacity worldwide and to a broad range of research activities, including strengthening communication among researchers, policy makers, and activists.
Training fellows, with faculty members and local training coordinators, will explore current issues in sexuality and gender through various training activities, including lectures, seminars, fieldwork, film screening, and fellows’ presentations. This ten-day intensive training program will provide a unique opportunity for participants to study theories of sexualities, exchange ideas, apply new knowledge in their work and develop networks.
Course
During the training, well-established international scholars and activists will give lectures on relevant topics, including sexual diversity, gender equality, human rights, sexual health, and qualitative and quantitative research methods. Training fellows will also receive critical mentorship and grantsmanship in the development of their own research projects and grant proposals for advocacy. The training course will focus on theory and methods on sexuality studies. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to the fellows who successfully complete the training course.
Eligibility
The Post-Conference training is intended for graduate students in the social sciences currently working on their thesis or dissertation on sexuality-related topics, or for community advocates working in the fields of sexuality, gender, or HIV/AIDS prevention.
